Reducing poverty through employment.
With no free medical, free schooling or dole payments the people for Madagascar have a difficult time. Life is tough with high unemployment rates so being able to employ a small team of artisans enables them to feed and clothe their families and hopefully enrol their children into the local school. Our project in Madagascar no only employs people, but offers them hope and by offering a hand up and not a hand out gives our artisans the dignity that they deserve. Using their weaving, embroidery and crocheting skills passed down through the generations is imperative as it keeps their traditions alive.
We value and appreciate our customers - your support makes such a difference.
Jeanine and Duncan were both born and raised in South Africa. They now call Australia home but still have a love and passion for the beautiful African artworks and creating fair trade opportunities. The traditional African crafts have so many colours that you will love and they showcase the many cultures of the country.
They fell in love with these handcrafted pieces as we know you will too and are now launching them Australia wide for the very first time through their Kashae fair trade business in Hervey Bay. They are so proud to be the exclusive distributor of the unique UMTHA brand jewellery in Australia.
We know what it is like to be trapped in poverty with little opportunity for a better life. Many are aware of the desperate unemployment situation in South Africa especially for those that are disabled. Kashae is determined to be part of changing this. UMTHA means 'Ray of Light', that is exactly what this jewellery project is, hope for a light in the dark.
UMTHA's team of jewellery designers are previously marginalised women from refugee communities that are trained to create the gorgeous African jewellery designs you will wear.
We are creative and thrive on the buzz of innovation and design. Our passion is around providing fair trade job opportunities to previously disadvantaged South Africans. Kashae is committed to improving the quality of life for our UMTHA team in South Africa.
We love the people of Madagascar, their creativity and hospitality.
We work with a group of artisans who are living in desperate situations. KASHAE aims to empower them create a sustainable income for them and their families through training and employment.
KASHAE designs their own bags and the team of artisans handcraft them using traditional weaving methods and any materials sent to them eg cork from Portugal.
We know you will love the unique and stylish designs ethically made using fair trade principles
